I will cry …

Seriously, if I get another request for selective coloring then I’ll surely cry. Selective coloring was used for these two images because I thought it was a good idea at the time (when I first launched my business last year, March 2007). It’s still kind of cute now … maybe. But, if you’re a future bride, please do not ask me to do this with your portraits, making the photo B&W and leave your bouquet in color. Aahhh!!!

It’s a style that is so out of style now. The last thing you’d want is your wedding photographs outdated before your one-year wedding anniversary. Trust me, it’s not a good idea at all. Again, if you ask me to do this then I will cry.

Some photography tips when posing for photos.

My previous post mentions about head-on shots; DO NOT tilt your head back because all it’s doing is creating an unflattering angle for yourself. It gives you a double-chin even if you don’t already have one, a thicker neck, and all we get is nostril. Eww. Make that double eww, one for each nostril that I see! So, here’s my ultimate tip: lean towards the camera and keep your chin down. This especially goes for the guys since that’s what y’all tend to do.

Here are some more tips to help you prepare for a session with MsB:

  • - First of all, PLEASE EAT!!! You’ll need the energy, trust me. FYI, my crew and I just love to eat!
  • - GET SOME REST! Photoshop-ing bags and dark circles under your eyes is murderous on my eyes.
  • - Explore the different sides of you. If you smile and pose the same way, because you think that’s your best angle, then you’ll look exactly the same in every single shot. I guarantee a minimum of 25+ edited images, but it won’t help if they all look the same. We don’t want that. So, do not be overly concerned about how you look; have fun!
  • - Dress to impress but, most importantly, DRESS COMFORTABLY. If you wear something that looks cute, but you cannot easily sit down in it then you’re not comfortable at all. You’ll be sucking in that gut the entire time and turn blue in the face from lack of oxygen to your head. haha! I know that sounded a bit harsh, but it’s so true!
  • - Keep your make up simple, natural, make good use of bronzer but don’t go overboard yet don’t skimp either or you’ll just look washed out. Note: I saturate color tone in my images so too much makeup is overkill.
  • - Have fun with your hair, make a list of various styles you can use with every outfit change. And, funky accessories are way cool, including colorful scarves, leg warmers, beanies, fur-trim hoodies, shoes, etc. Remember, it’s all about colors and textures. PLAY IT UP! MIX IT UP!
  • - Bring an MP3 player and/or a friend to help get you to be yourself — or, just bring the whole cheerleading squad! If you don’t feel like yourself then it’ll show in photos. So, do whatever it takes to get yourself more comfortable.

Sure, it’s about the images; but, here’s a hint: It’s not always about the images. You work with certain people because you know they can produce the type of quality that you see in their portfolio/website, but also remember that it’s about how you feel in the end. This goes back to Maya Angelou’s saying, “People will forget what you said … People will forget what you did … But, people will never forget how you made them feel.”

And, my #1 goal is to make you feel comfortable on your session with me. I like to goof off and have fun so that’s what you can expect from me and my second photographer, Derrick Bautista. He’s like the brother I never had, but just like blood siblings I can’t seem to get rid of him either. haha! Yeah, we’re both definitely weirdoes!

Wedding Singer

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

You Give Good Love.

Dude, if I can sing I’d totally do this song by Whitney Houston (pre-crack) to audition for “American Idol.” No lie!!! But, it’s a good thing that I’m too old for that show, spare them the pain. haha! But, I really did want to incorporate a performance into my June 2002 wedding; I wanted to get all six of my bridesmaids and frontman this song. Again, I cannot sing to save my life and my bridesmaids were the shy type. Man, if I can just do it all over again … Yeah, I’d liquor them all up right before we go on stage! hehe!

But, at least I can live vicariously through the B&Gs that I’m commissioned to photograph this year. Yay!!!

Wed: First Dance

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

I don’t like to post too many personal things on my business site, but since this has to do with weddings I figured it’s all good, and it’s my website! hehe. I sit here with my laptop on my lap — duh, where else would it be?! — and I’m wishing that I had done something very similar for my first dance like this couple had done at their wedding. I mean, this video truly depicts how my husband and I are; he loves to dance and is always in the spotlight (addicted?!) and I love entertainment. This is why I am very, very adamant that there is some kind of performance at my big events. Y’all should’ve seen my 80s-themed 30th birthday bash. It was just amazingly C-R-A-Z-Y!!!

So, I highly recommend future B&Gs to jump on the bandwagon and mix up your first dance a bit. Sure, the traditional first dance with the slow ballad is sweet and all but, honestly, no one really pays attention throughout the song. Last weekend, I attended a wedding and there was a fun first dance to Sir Mix-a-Lot’s “Baby Got Back.” Seriously! Near the end, the groom dropped his pants to reveal his red thong with H-E-L-P written on his “cheeks.” OMG, is he wearing a thong — a red one?! (Yeah, only you, Chad! ahaha!!!)

Oh, I found the video they emulated for their first dance, see Video #2. BTW, I don’t know the couple in Video #1. Yes, I am Asian like them but, contrary to popular beliefs, I’m not related to every Asian person, ya know. haha!
